As far as I know, I don’t find any shake feature in other countries, but in Indonesia, shake feature has been a trending in this recent year. Like Tokopedia, Lazada, and Shopee (big e-commerce platform in Indonesia) have used this feature as an engagement method to gather more user and buyer. You can simply shake your phone to get a special promotion, coupon, discount, and even joining hundreds of customers to compete for a special product.
Well, you won’t get this kind of feature when you just use a website. You can’t just shake your computer, it would damage the hard disk. This is a specific feature for mobile app and it’s quite useful nowadays.
According to Android Developer, the Android platform provides several sensors that let you monitor the motion of a device.

So, basically, the motion sensor will help you to create the mobile shake feature. Not just monitoring the surrounding of your phone.
As far as I know, a motion sensor is used in an alarm app. For example, you have to shake your phone many times to turn off the alarm. It’s quite effective to wake you up if you are a real sleepy head. A game-like approach that will get more customer if you apply it in a mobile app. This is a good example of more feature in the future.
Another feature is you can use a motion sensor for sport. Like you use a heartbeat detector or speed detector to measure your performance in your sport. For now, we can use our smartphone and attached it on our shoulder. Or we can use the sports bracelet instead. My point is we can use the motion sensor in our own innovative way. Including the e-commerce business.
Perhaps there will be more feature that uses this sensor in the future. But let’s focus on the e-commerce field first.
Like what I said earlier, shake feature rarely found in the e-commerce business. I think the huge company like Amazon, JingDong, or Alibaba are using other sophisticated features. But for small business, I think you can use this since it’s not really hard to code and almost all smartphone could use this feature.
New feature always has someplace to get an attention. Especially if you give limited time for the feature. You can’t just shake your mobile phone every time and get the promotion right away. Like Tokopedia, Shopee, and Lazada, they only use 2-3 hours for mobile shake feature.
And since you can only use this in a mobile app, then you must download the app to use and feel the excitement of this feature. You can make a more loyal customer by using this mobile shake feature.
Ah yes, you can create a competition as well. Just like what Tokopedia did. When you use shake feature, you will be invited and joined into a private group chat. The customer could join a limited-time quiz in the group chat and you can give a special present for whoever who wins the quiz. Make your mobile app becomes more fun and full of surprise.
