Shipping a full-feature beauty commerce app against an anniversary deadline
C&F wanted their mobile app live for their anniversary celebration. Their website ran 13 modules and a set of custom features, and the app had to mirror all of it, plus support five exclusive brand themes. We shipped in two releases to make the date.
About C&F
C&F is a beauty and cosmetics retailer running a feature-rich e-commerce operation, luxury and configurable products, bundles, gift cards, beauty profiles and a loyalty programme, all live on the web before the app project began.
The challenge
Three constraints arrived together.
The deadline was fixed and external: the app had to be live for the anniversary celebration, which is not a date that moves. The scope was large: 13 modules and a set of custom features already running on the website needed equivalents in the app, with new features added on top. And the design brief was unusual, several brands stocked by C&F required their own exclusive look inside the Shop, meaning one default theme plus five exclusive themes, switchable by an administrator.
Building all of that before the anniversary was not achievable in one release.
Our approach
We split the release rather than the scope. The first version shipped on the original deadline carrying the core ordering journey, enough for customers to browse and buy on the anniversary. The second release followed with the full feature set implemented.
Underneath, we built the APIs and the additional development needed to serve both the app and the website, so features stayed consistent across channels rather than diverging.
For the themes, each layout was designed and implemented separately, giving administrators control over which brands display which theme.
The published app now carries pop-up banner home, flash sales, luxury and configurable products, bundles, gift cards, beauty profiles and product personalisation, plus wishlist, waitlist, free gifts, free samples and reward points. Midtrans Snap handles payment; Limekurir and Pick Up In Store handle fulfilment; MoEngage, spin-to-win and cart rules drive engagement; and ERP integration keeps operations synchronised. A version management approach keeps the app upgradable.
What we delivered
- Two-phase release. Core ordering shipped on the original anniversary deadline; the complete feature set followed in a second release.
- 13 modules mirrored, plus new features. Website functionality reproduced in-app, with additional features built for both channels.
- 6 switchable themes. One default plus five exclusive brand themes, controlled by the administrator.
- Payments, fulfilment and ERP. Midtrans Snap, Limekurir, Pick Up In Store, and ERP synchronisation.
